Te Tari Pūreke | Firearms Safety Authority is responsible for overseeing lawful firearms possession in New Zealand and ensuring firearms possession is limited to those who are fit and proper to possess firearms, and who comply with their legal obligations. It is a business unit of Police.
Firearms Registry and MyFirearms
As of 24 June 2023, New Zealand has a firearms registry. Firearm licence holders are required to provide information about themselves and their arms items to the Registry.
For more information on licence holders’ obligations, go to Registry on the Te Tari Pūreke website.
The Registry is part of MyFirearms, a secure, online portal where licence holders can register their firearms and apply for and manage their firearms licensing.
New applicants can apply for their firearms licence through MyFirearms.
Licence holders can also notify us of a change of address, circumstance, or a change of health practitioner through MyFirearms.
